Mercer Island Named a “Playful City USA!

Mercer Island was one of 67 communities across the country honored by KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to bringing play back into children’s lives. Playful City USA is a national recognition program that honors cities and towns across the nation who put their children’s well-being first by recognizing and harnessing the power of play.

    "The Mercer Island Parks and Recreation Department takes pride in providing the highest quality facilities and services in partnership with the community to enhance livability on Mercer Island."

    Comprehensive and diverse services include recreation, athletic, social, art, special event, park and facility operations/maintenance, open space acquisition, urban forestry management and other services.

    Services are provided to preschool age children, youth, teen, adult, family and senior populations through partnerships with community agencies, businesses and institutions.

    With over 35 parks and open space areas boasting over 400 acres and trails in excess of 50 miles, the Department maintains

    Parks Ballot Measures to voters in November
    A $12 million parks bond to fund park capital improvements and a $900,000 per year operations and maintenance levy will be placed on the November 4th, 2008, ballot. Read more….
